Lagotto Romagnolo – Whelping on Ustream

Lagotto Romagnolo – Whelping @ USTREAM: Our Lagotto is about to give birth to 6-7 puppies.

UPDATE: We took down the video because Margot was having trouble. We took her to the emergency vet. Margot was exhausted and a puppy was stuck. Just when we were trying to decide on a C-section, she gave birth to a very active little Girl! She is precious. The vet is sending us home to deliver her brothers and sisters.
We will be home soon and have the video back up soon

We are Expecting!

Margot has had a great summer!  She swam in the lake, the ocean and had a great time.  She even caught a couple of fish to snack on.  We made a road trip to Tampa, FL to meet up with Bono.  He is an all white (officially white/orange) male that she has had her eye on since the Lagotto meetup in Chattanooga in 2009.  It was quite an eventful trip.  Margot and Bono are expecting puppies around Labor Day.  Check back as we should know more soon………

Updated 8/29/11.  XRAY was taken to determine number of Pups.  How many can you see?

Time for a Bigger Room!

The pups are getting so big.  They range from 4 pounds up to 7 pounds.  They are eating real dog food which means they are pooping real dog poop!  The odor and the box needing 18 inch walls necessitated a change in venue.  We now have the Puppy play box in the basement which sure helps us get a better night sleep.  Because of the location, I can’t get a webcam on the pups.  Sorry.

Pictures to come……

Time for a Bigger Box

The pups are now 3 weeks old.  The biggest weighs almost 4 lbs!  We had been using a kiddie pool as the welping box and containment pen.  Well, watch the video below and you can see why we built a bigger box.

Welcome

This site is in regards of our Lagotto Romagnolo, Margot.

A little bit about us… We have had labs in the past and loved them.  Labs are smart, playful, love water and are loyal dogs.  About 2 years ago we were in the market for a dog.  Now that we have 4 children, one with allergies, our criteria changed.  So we Googled “child friendly, non-bark, non-shed, hypoallergenic, medium sized, loves water”.  Our search led us to Lagottos.

Breed Info

Lagotto Romagnolo is a dog that has been specially bred to find truffles on all kinds of terrain.  It is the only breed in the world specialized in tracking down this special tuber.  A typical water dog of small-medium size, it is a light mesomorph with a rather stocky trunk.  Its general appearance is rustic, strong and well-porportioned and its utility as a working dog is immediately obvious.  The expression is one of attentiveness, intelligence and vivacity.  The Lagotto works enthusiastically and efficiently, making the most of its inherent search-and-find skills and excellent sense of smell.  The hunting instinct has been suppressed for so long that its not distracted by game.  An affectionate animal, it forms a close bond with its owner and also makes a fine, easy-to-train companion.
